My role includes working with the community to bring you a wide variety of fundraisers to raise money for Folkestone Pride. If you would like to help organise fundraisers, please get in touch.
My name is Dan and I am your director of fundraising for Folkestone Pride 2019.
I was born in Cardiff, Wales in 1983 and lived with my parents and sister. All throughout my school life I was bullied for being different but managed to fight my way through some of the hardest years of my life. When I left school I started to work in entertainments and have been doing so ever since.
I started off working for holiday parks all across the UK as a magician, dancer and actor until I became ill and had to leave. I then managed to settle down and get a job in sunny Folkestone at the Grand Burstin Hotel. At this point I had become the one and only, fabulous Miss Dolly Poppers. I worked a lot with different companies and committees and took part in many different charity events and shows including the first ever Margate Pride and even Dover's first attempt to host a Pride.
Over the last two years I have been working hard to form the Folkestone and Surrounding Areas LGTBI Social Group where people who normally wouldn't socialise can feel comfortable making new friends. This has a strong social media presence with a membership of over 200 and meets weekly at various locations, primarily in Folkestone.
I have been working with the Folkestone Pride Committee for the last two years, although this is the first time that I have had a seat on the organising board. I am looking forward to working with everybody to make this years pride... and many more the best that they can be. So let's bring on this year's Folkestone Pride and make it a day to remember.
