My role is to make sure deadlines are met by the other directors and to make sure that everything is being done correctly to ensure you a safe and enjoyable Folkestone Pride.
CHANI - firstname.lastname@example.org
My name is Chani and I started organising Folkestone Pride in December 2016. I first reached out to the public in February 2017 and since then have met some absolutely wonderful people.
I was born in Folkestone and have lived in Folkestone most of my life with time also spent in London and a couple of other places.
For someone who claims to be a keen traveller, I haven't done nearly as much as I would like to, however it was visiting China when I was 13 that opened my eyes to cultural differences and since then I've been a fighter, fighting for the rights of others, rights we take so for-granted in the UK.
I struggled a lot with my identity in general growing up and I know still now people are confused as to how I identify, well so am I, it's an on-going battle and one I feel as though I will be fighting my whole life. I know I'm fortunate to have family and friends that support me and understand me even if there are so many people who do not.
One of the reasons I started Folkestone Pride and why pride in general is so important to me is because I have friends who still to this day in London are beaten up for being a 'fag' while waiting for their husband at a train station, who are egged walking home or who are shouted at in the streets and made to fear for their lives. There are also people who don't believe this still happens.
So please get involved with Folkestone Pride, the more we can spread the love the more we can change attitudes together and maybe we can eradicate so much of the hate and prejudice we still see in the world.
